Each year, residents of Marjorie P. Lee participate in the annual LeadingAge Ohio Art and Writing. Below are some of this year’s beautiful submissions. As with many things during the COVID-19, we have moved our exhibit to a virtual platform to share with the community. Please enjoy the many excellent submissions that were created this past year, including paintings, drawings, written stories, and more.
LeadingAge Ohio was founded in 1937 to assist the state’s not-for-profit providers of senior services focused on resident and client care. Traditionally concentrating on legislative advocacy efforts and educational programming, the association developed the LeadingAge Ohio Resident Forum in 1995 to share life-style enrichment opportunities with residents and clients of member providers. The Art and Writing Program was founded as an offshoot of the Forum and has organized the popular Regional Art, and Writing Shows annually since the early 1990s. In 2013, more than 1,100 entries were displayed and judged at the district shows with more than 1,300 visitors in attendance.
Most entrants are recently devoted creative explorers, with experienced writers and artists in the minority. Always, the overall quality of the pieces is so outstanding that State Show judges rave about the craftsmanship and ingenuity. Residents who do not enter the shows enthusiastically volunteer for set-up, welcoming, and staffing duties at the district events. Each year, many residents travel to Columbus exclusively to visit the State Show held during the Annual Conference. Nothing beats seeing one’s creation on display and hearing viewer compliments and praise.
