Parish Health Ministry

Episcopal Retirement Homes extends its ministry outside the walls of its retirement communities through its Parish Health Ministry (PHM) program, which assists congregations throughout Central and Southern Ohio with developing or enhancing a parish nurse/ health ministry. Outside of a small paid staff, PHM is run by volunteers who help bring health information and advocacy to the community.

Supported solely through financial donations, PHM invests nearly $2,200 per church to help improve the lives of congregation members through health advocacy, educational programs, and wellness activities. The ministry, which was founded in 1998, currently serves more than 80 congregations of various religious denominations throughout Southern Ohio.

Here are some of the services Parish Health Ministry offers:

  • Regular screenings for blood pressure, colon cancer, and stroke.
  • Personal health counselors who assess individual's health needs and help them find the services they need.
  • Home, hospital, and nursing home visits.
  • Provides workshops for continuing education for individuals involved with health ministry.
