Episcopal Retirement Services held it’s first ever, Over The Edge For Elders fundraiser on June 12th and 13th in Over-The-Rhine. The event offered a twist to traditional fundraisers where people sponsored Edgers who rappelled down a 10-story building!
The event took place at the Central Parkway YMCA, where the top six floors are being renovated by Affordable Living by Episcopal Retirement Services into 65 apartments for older adults with limited incomes. The presenting sponsor for the event was US Bank, the lead sponsor was the Model Group and the building sponsor was the Central Parkway YMCA.
The two-day occasion kicked off at the Central Parkway YMCA on Friday, June 12th with CELEBRATE! — ERS’s annual fundraising BBQ dinner, and auction – where 10 celebrity Edgers rappelled to get the evening started. This included, 94 year-old Astar Daniels. Ms. Daniels rappelled with Channel 5’s Kristy Davis that evening. Other well-known supporters who rappelled that night included Vice-Mayor David Mann, former Vice-Mayor and Over-The-Rhine supporter Jim Tarbell, and The Reverend Canon John Koepke from the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio.
On Saturday, June 13th 59 Edgers rappelled down the 10-story historic building to help raise money for affordable senior housing where deserving older adults can live with dignity in a secure and enriching community. Saturday’s rappelers featured 66-year-old resident of St. Paul Village, Tina Grant, President and CEO of Episcopal Retirement Homes, Doug Spitler, and Cincinnati City Council Woman, Amy Murray.
Thanks to everyone that made this event such a huge success!
