a Meals on Wheels Volunteer!
Volunteers are at the heart of the Deupree Community
Meals on Wheels program. Individuals of all ages donate
their time to deliver more than 500 meals each day.
Every bit as important as the food is the fellowship
that comes with meal delivery.
Volunteers go the extra mile to make
sure that clients are taken care of. Some volunteers
even take their own lunch hours to deliver meals, simply
because they feel it’s important to give back
to the community. Often, a volunteer will sit with a
client for a minute or two, chatting about the Reds
or looking at pictures of the grandchildren.
“I love delivering these meals.
I know I am doing something that really helps. People
look forward to my visit and the few minutes of conversation.
I always think, ‘this could have been my mother,’”
says Steve Fisk, Meals on Wheels Volunteer.
The program is always looking for
permanent and substitute volunteers to deliver meals.
All volunteer drivers must have a car and valid driver
license. Orientation and training are provided, as well
as a free lunch on days volunteers make deliveries.
